23.07.08: Mumiy Troll's song Kontrabandi (Contrabands) reached English cinema.
The Mumiy Troll's composition Kontrabandi (Contrabands) was included in the soundtrack for the movie Bigga Than Ben (Bolshe Bena) that will be released in Russia on the 24th of July 2008. The director of the film is Suzie Halewood from England, and main parts are played by Ben Barnes (Stardust, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) and Andrei Chadov (Zhivoy, Otkritoe Prostranstvo). The basis of the movie is a story about adventures of two Russian friends who, pursuing luck and adrenaline, come to conquer London, having no money. The film is shot by the book under the same name by popular Runet authors, Pavel 'Sobakka' Tetersky and Sergey 'Spiker' Sakin (literature award Debut 2000 in category 'Major Prose').
«The only my offer was to include in the sound track for the film, that Suzie Halewood mostly composed of indi-london groups, a significant song of a Russian artist,» – says the sound producer of the film Bigga Than Ben, Mikhail Kozirev. «From several options we, without reservation, selected the song Kontrabandi. The thing is, at the end of the movie we needed a counterpoint composition: frolic and merry, but at the same time having hidden sadness and grief. Kontrabandi has it all. Even after recording the English version, Halewood decided that in international distribution the song will be in Russian.»
Mumiy Troll has a lot of experience in professional movie production field: the group recorded soundtracks for animations Neznaika i Barrabas and Kung-Fu Panda, for movies Pokhititeli Knig (The Book Thieves) by Leonid Ribakov and Dozor's by Bekmambetov, as well as for sci-fi film of 1935, Kosmichesky Reis (The Space Race). MT's songs played in Znaki Lubvi (Signs of Love) by Vladimir Mirzoev, Piter-FM by Oksana Bychko and Den Radio (The Radio Day) by Dmitry Dyachenko and Kvartet E. Besides taking part in creation of music, Ilya Lagutenko acted in Nochnoi Dozor (The Night Watch), Den Radio and Pokhititeli Knig. In the latter he also performed as off-screen voice, and in animation film Kung-Fu Panda by DreamWorks company the leader of MT spoke for the Master Monkey character.
A hit song Bandi (Gangs) of Mumiy Troll was included in the soundtrack for a thriller by Vadim Shmelev – S.S.D., the premiere of which will take place in the beginning of autumn.
