Our final MUSEXPO 2012 showcase artist was voted “Best Band of the Millennium■ by Russian music fans, but Mumiy Troll (pronounced Moo-mei Troll) isn`t merely that country`s most successful band, it`s without question the most significant musical entity Russia has produced since Perestroika. Employing glam rock aesthetic mixed with the swagger of classic rock icons, their hard-charging sound and archetypal riffs have attracted an appreciative audience that continues to grow as folks flow back into Studio One. Frontman Ilya Lagutenko possesses the charming stage presence of a seasoned performer and employs it well. Mumiy Troll`s recently released album Vladivostok is a shoutout to their Pacific Coast hometown (“You can see it from Venice Beach,■ Ilya dryly remarks between songs). It`s their first English language full-length and was produced by Ilya along with Mike Clink (Guns N` Roses, Megadeth), Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, The Shins) and Brit Greg Brimson (Bush, Eminem).
