Mumiy Troll bring Vladivostok to the UK for intimate 2012 album launch tour

Award-winning Russian rockers follow-up recent sold-out shows with handful of smaller gigs, tickets on sale now

I`ll confess, I haven`t been to many pub quizzes that have featured the question, `how many Russian pop or rock stars can you name that have broken into the mainstream in the UK?`. In fact, none. Which is a shocking state of affairs when you realize how powerful and formidable Russia has become in the past few decades. OK, the Pussy Riot episode hasn`t exactly brought them plaudits and seems an injustice on the face of it, but Russia hasn`t been able to export its biggest stars much further than the borders of neighbouring Latvia and Belarus, or the networks showing Eurovision Song Contests, apart from Tatu, Boris Grebenshschikov — and these lads.

So, to learn that Mumiy Troll, from the town of Vladivostok near the North Korean border, have been something of a `hit` in Japan and various European countries (Germany, for one) is refreshing. The band originally formed in 1983, split due to various commitments and reformed in 1997. Since then, they`ve become one of Russia`s biggest rock bands who may not possess the notoriety of Pussy Riot, but aren`t adverse to conservation fund-raising and highlighting social awareness issues (AIDS, poverty).

Much of Mumiy Troll`s music has been exclusively Russian in language, but this hasn`t stopped Russians resident in the UK from being loyal to their music and their cause. English fans are starting to cotton on as well — two September shows in Manchester and London have completely sold out. They might just do the same with their next UK tour, due to start in the autumn.

As part of a promotional drive for their 15th album, `Vladivostok` (out now), Mumiy Troll will return to the UK for a tour which starts in London (two dates) on 9th November, followed by Bristol, Brighton, Norwich, Liverpool and finally Birmingham on the 16th. We have tickets to these shows now, priced at just £10 upwards. The band will run through the new album and play a few special favourites songs as well.
